Faster ladders edit

4c/9 ladder.

When I wrote in the article "The most common ladder pattern advances one cell every three generations", it was because I was unsure whether there were any other speeds, rather than because I knew there were others. But now I know: there is also a 4c/9 ladder. See http://11011110.livejournal.com/174137.html for details. I'm not sure this counts as a reliable source, and anyway it would be too self-serving, so I haven't added this to the article. —David Eppstein (talk) 10:43, 7 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Here's an animation to show that in action. --Simpsons contributor (talk) 17:11, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I replaced the image you originally linked here with the other image you made showing this pattern. The 2c/3 parasitic shoot doesn't really count as a ladder because it can't grow on its own. —David Eppstein (talk) 22:40, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
PS I have since added a mention of these other ladder speeds to the article, since it would no longer be self-serving to do so: I learned that they were discovered earlier by Dean Hickerson. —David Eppstein (talk) 17:36, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
