Talk:Liesel Pritzker Simmons

Why does it matter if she's Jewish or not?

edit

Is it really necessary or helpful to identify her as a Jew? "Liesel was born into the Jewish Pritzker family." Aardhart 01:54, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, it could ditinguish between the Jewish Pritzker family and any Pritzkers who might be goyim. Also, it might be nice for young Jewish readers to know who else has been successful in the cinema. 69.201.159.57 (talk) 16:32, 4 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

What's a goyim Pritzker? Sounds like some sort of noodle dish. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.138.90.156 (talk) 05:26, 16 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

founders of hyatt

edit

The Wikipedia page for Abram Pritzker says he founded the Hyatt chain; this page and Jay Pritzker's page both say Jay Pritzker was the founder. Which was the true founder? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 18.173.1.125 (talk) 20:05, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

date of birth

edit

An IP editor consistently changes her year of birth from 1984 to 1986, without providing any reference. In fact, we have no reference at all for her date of birth, and I can't find a WP:RS (IMDb does not qualify).

The article previously cited to a Forbes article:

Carlyle, Erin (November 17, 2013). "Liesel Pritzker Simmons Sued Her Family And Got $500 Million, But She's No Trust Fund Baby". Forbes. Retrieved December 26, 2015.

But the most that provides is the text "Last year the 29-year-old..." which would make her 29 in late 2013, with a year of birth therefore being 1983 or 1984, depending when in the year her birthday falls. (This is assuming that "Last year the 29-year-old" does not indicate that she was 29 "last year" as of the date of publication, i.e. in 2012, which could mean a 1982 year of birth) No reliable source gives the March 14 DOB.

So, we have a Forbes article that puts her year-of-birth somewhere 1982-1984, and no reliable source at all for the date within the year. Based on that, I'm dropping it. WP:BLP demands better than this. TJRC (talk) 21:06, 8 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Following up on this, only 2.something years later, policy requires a reliable source for dates of birth of living people. I also could not find a suitable source and hence have removed the date of birth from the article. WWESpiderman, you should not restore the DoB without a reliable source. Thanks, Wham2001 (talk) 09:48, 29 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Now what sense does that make WweSpiderman 14:31, 29 March 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by WWESpiderman (talkcontribs)

Perfect sense. On the one hand it's an issue of the privacy of our article subjects, who may well consider their date of birth to be private, personal information. We should not be publishing personal information about living people that isn't publicly available in reliable sources at all. On the other hand it's an issue of verifiability: all information on Wikipedia should be supported or able to be supported by a reference to a reliable source. Otherwise it shouldn't be in the article. That's a core principle of how we write this encyclopedia.
If you edit biographical articles, or articles that contain biographical information about living people, I would strongly encourage you to read the Wikipedia policy on writing about living people; it's one of our most important policies and should be followed scrupulously.
