I don't understand edit

Are the works of William Shakespeare under copyright in Russia? Esn (talk) 09:41, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

If they are in Russian, they might be if the translation is still under copyright. Every new version, in the original or in a translated language, generates a new copyright which expires only after so and so many years after the death of the translator/adaptor. If you took one on W.S.'s plays and made a new version, that would be your copyright. These things are done often, so people can cash in on the copyright royalties, when they do not have the ideas or resources for something completely new. Often done by spouses of actors/actresses.

Question to lib.ru edit

During research I came across the Svindin memoirs, which I found helpful and good reading. I thought, there are other English things on there, but I have not found a list. Unfortunately I only play bass balalaika, but cannot read cyrillic. So, if there is more, could you make a list, please? Spassiva! 121.209.49.206 (talk) 04:53, 2 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
