Whilst the RAF did carry out serveral raids against Hanover, this [1] German Wikipedia article suggests that the palace was in fact destroyed following a daytime raid by the USAAF on 26 July 1943:

Bei einem ersten Tagesangriff durch die 8. US-Luftflotte in den Mittagsstunden wurden große Teile des Stadtzentrums zerstört – Marktkirche, Altes Rathaus, Hauptbahnhof, Opernhaus und Leineschloss waren getroffen und brannten teils völlig aus. Alte Markthalle und Café Kröpcke wurden völlig zerstört. 273 Menschen kamen ums Leben; 4000 Menschen wurden obdachlos.
(During one of the first daytime raids by the US 8th Air Force in the afternoon [of 26 July], large parts of the town centre were destroyed - the Market Church, Old Town Hall, main railway station, Opera House and Leine Palace were hit and completely burnt out. The Old Market Hall and the Café Kröpcke were totally destroyed. 273 people were killed, and 4000 were made homeless.)

Neither description is sourced, so I don't know which version is correct, but it needs to be clarified and one article or the other changed accordingly. Petecollier (talk) 21:36, 30 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
