Left Coast is nothing more than a hate word describing Citizens of the United States who vote for the Democratic Party and live on the West Coast of the United States. In this its not an Encyclopedic article but maybe a Dictionary term. [[MagnuMSerpentine}} 9-22-06

Red state, blue state map

I think the map is misleading and overbearing. As Image:2004 US elections purple counties.png shows, the situation is not so clear cut at the county level. -- Donald Albury 22:20, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Disgraceful. I'm unsure who exactly gave California State it's 'Leftcoast' title. Unless you live in Los Angeles or San Francisco, this so misrepresented. NPOV dispute

This article has a recurring POV problem.

Before an edit on 4/28/07, the second paragraph read as follows:

In Canada, the coastal strip of British Columbia, including Vancouver Island, is also referred to as the Left Coast. This is in part because of the large population of hippies and others, including American military deserters and draft dodgers, who sought a more tranquil life in the relatively unpopulated coastal areas of the province. This same area is also referred to as the Wet Coast or Rain Coast because of the high annual precipitation found in many places along the coast.

The middle segment of this paragraph is objectionable and was rightfully removed, but it was unfortunately replaced by the following paragraph:

Its landscape and opportunities attracted many Americans to move to the Pacific Coast for a better life. Also, many Asians (due to its proximity) and Central and South Americans (able to cross the Mexican border) have settled on the Left Coast as well. Because of its location, the Pacific Coast has become a melting pot of peoples from all over the world, and many places (such as the San Francisco Bay area, the L.A. basin, Seattle, and Vancouver) represent some of the most ethnically diverse places on the planet. Some speculate that it is because of this diversity and shared dream of peoples who settled here that progressive and democratic ideals are prevalent.

I feel that this paragraph is also biased because it overtly suggests that progressive (being an American euphemism for left-leaning) politics are the natural result of positive stimuli. By unspoken implication, opposing political views would be considered less wholesome.

I would simply delete it, but I feel that without another paragraph this article is so marginal as to deserve deletion or inclusion as a reference in some other article which focuses more broadly on regional politics in America or political demographics -- posted by PJ, a concerned reader who is not yet a member, on 4/20/07

I agree with the disputed comment from above. Why is no one speaking about the prejudices of California State. The Catholic-Hispanic American culture is so prevalent...that there is no room for ideas such such as Prop 8.
