English name edit

I checked out the National Scout Organisations, and the name of this organization in English is The Scout and Guide Central Organization of Latvia. I think we should change it to that name. --evrik 22:47, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The organization gives it as Latvian Scout and Guide central organisation [1] (note the BE spelling!). --jergen 11:55, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Few things edit

The Scout and Guide Motto is "Esi Modrs", translating as "Be Prepared" in Latvian, the response to which is "Arvien Modra!", "Always Prepared!". The Little Fire Motto is "Centīšos!". The Latvian noun for a single Scout is Skauts. Acctualy "modrs" is watchful, I guess "Be Prepared" is some international motto, but, translated in Latvian, it is motto of soviet pioneers, not scouts and guides. Translation for Little fire motto is "I will try". Also scouts would rather answer in musculine gender - "modrs" and their age groups are Cub Scouts - mazskauts, Scouts - skauts, Rovers - Lielskauts---- Xil/talk 10:41, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually "Esi modrs" means "Be vigilant (watchful, alert)" ;) --70.108.255.180 (talk) 18:36, 20 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! edit

Could it possibly be this person? http://www.mfa.gov.lv/lv/Ministrija/vesture/4439/4446/ ? Chris 11:17, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't say so ---- Xil/talk 12:17, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Naming convention edit

According to WP:ENGLISH, I have tried to rename this article to Latvian Scout and Guide Central Organisation, which is also the official name in English for this organisation. I was instantly reverted with this reason: "undiscussed move-discussion at Scouting Project" Perhaps someone would like to discuss the move from the Latvian title to the English title? This issue has a long discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scouting, just as in the revert reason. Perhaps someone would like to visit that discussion? Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 19:11, 5 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, it is quite difficult to know of a discussion if there is no note on this at the appropriate talk page, i.e. this article talk page. Does anyone else know of any discussions on this subject not held on this talk page? Perhaps you can link directly to the discussion, so I do not have to wade through all of the archives?
