I think you've done a really good job adding some updated sources and making the diagnostic criteria clear and easy to understand from a layman's perspective. The introduction is concise, and lays out the general outline of the article very well. The article presents information neutrally and in an organized manner. The treatment section is very thorough and easy to understand. One thing you could consider elaborating on in the Symptoms and Diagnosis section is the fact that depression in the elderly can appear like dementia. Med Student Work Plan

I will be editing this page for a class in medical school. I have chosen it due to its high importance and starting quality. It contains some good information and is succinct but can also be expanded on. The newest source cited is from 2009, so I will try to find newer information on current epidemiology and any treatment advancements in the past 10 years.

I will look to expand upon the "symptoms" section and rebrand it as a diagnosis section or create a new section for diagnosis. Because late life depression is diagnosed the same way as major depressive disorder, I will include a link to the main article (MDD) there and emphasize the criteria in a concise way with DSM-V guidance similar to what has already been done. Differential diagnosis should also be included as the elderly can face depression like symptoms for many medical and neurological reasons. I would also like to add a subsection on screening for which I can refer to current clinical guidelines.

I also plan to expand more on the Causes section and go further into risk factors. Uptodate has more information and sources on risk factors which could be added. The epidemiology section contains information on the impact depression has, so I will find more recent sources about the impact it has and emphasize the suicide risk associated with depression.

Treatment can be expanded upon. In general the sources are old and may hold up, but I will review more recent literature to see. ECT was talked about previously on this page and is important in treating refractory depression so I will investigate recent pubmed articles for information.

The research section only has one study from 1997 cited, so I will see if anymore information has come about on brain imaging, though I will not make it the priority of my project. "Research" may also be rebranded or moved to another section as "Imaging" because of the lack of information here.

To avoid medical jargon I will try to use patient directed resources and language so that this article can be a resource for a person reading about late life depression. --Law527 (talk) 20:42, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

We are a group of medical students at UCSF who are going to edit this page with the aim of improving it because of its quality rating as “Start-class” but its importance rating of “High-Importance” within the WikiProject Medicine. The student editors of this page are METaw17 and UCSFmed2025. Our initial analysis of this article agrees with the “Start-class” rating given by WikiProject Medicine. There are significant gaps in the information presented and it lacks sufficient citations, particularly citations that follow the MEDRS guidelines.

Our overall organizational plan is as follows:

• We will add to the Research section of the page by including information on recent findings and consensus in the field. Currently this section only has two sentences and can be significantly expanded upon with recent research and additional citations.

• We will also add information on screening for late life depression as is indicated by medical consensus and current guidelines. This will be likely added to the Symptoms and Diagnosis section. We don’t plan on removing any sections of the page, however, if statements can be updated with newer information, we will do so.

• We hope to augment the article by adding citations to statements that need but are currently lacking citations. If no citations are available, we will delete the sentence or rephrase it with information that can be supported by an appropriate citation. Specifically, we will add citations to the Causes section of the page, which currently has none.

Peer Review Comments: - The addition to the Research section is very helpful and a good addition to the section that was limited. Wiki Education assignment: Technical and Scientific Communication
