Talk:Larry Sharpe (political activist)/Archive 1

This article needs to be published.

Larry Sharpe has been described as the "rising star" in libertarian circles. We all know it. Thanks to the 2016 National Convention, he has an electoral history. He is a candidate for Governor of New York, and has been endorsed by Gary Johnson. He has been mentioned in countless articles talking about the LP, from Buzzfeed, to Reason, to The Daily News Online, and NewsMax, making #88 on their list of The 100 Most Influential Libertarians.

Larry also has a high position in the LNC which is Regional Alternate.

It just makes sense for him to have an article, and makes things easier. Ghoul fleshtalk 03:55, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

Significant edits

I have just made some fairly significant edits to the article. While some of the content was supported by reliable sources (an impressive amount for a third-party candidate, actually), some was supported by non-reliable sources or self-published ones and some material was just not significant enough to be included. I left some content in the article that is supported by sources I'd consider borderline-reliable.

If anyone wants to reinsert any material that I removed, I'd respectfully ask that you please make sure it is supported by a reliable secondary source as per WP:BLP. SunCrow (talk) 06:30, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

50,000 vote achievement

The idea that Larry Sharpe is running on the idea that he only is trying to get 50,000 votes which will get ballot access for the Libertarian Party is a myth being perpetrated by the republican party as a way to sway votes from Larry Sharpe towards their candidate. Larry has addressed this on multiple occasions that the campaign is not focused on this but on winning the election. The information posted over this (about the ballot signatures) is the same information listed on the New York gubernatorial election, 2018 Wikipedia, it is more relevant to the campaign as it shows the support that Larry Sharpe is generating.

That's a lot of unfunded accusations and you'd need an actual reliable source to trump the Politico article cited, not OR or synthesis. JesseRafe (talk) 14:32, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
Larry addresses it in the Politico article cited "Sharpe said it was "a joke" to talk about his chances of garnering at least 50,000 votes. “I already have a base of [176,000] people who vote for Gary Johnson and Bill Weld in 2016," he said. "I’ll get that easily...Despite this track record, Sharpe says he’s running not...to legitimize the party, but to win" swicked18 (talk) 14:57, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
That, in plain English says it's a joke about his chances, not that including it as a goal of the campaign is a joke. Please leave the included material status quo ante in the meantime and await consensus to develop on this page. JesseRafe (talk) 15:15, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
That was NOT the intention of the quote and to read it as such is disingenuous. The candidate stated in the cited Politico article that this was not a goal of the campaign. The statement in the Politico article that it WAS is opinion at best. anthonydoraizo (talk) 15:47, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
