Talk:Lane, West Yorkshire

Please feel free to tell me to p*ss off (having seen various discussions about "The Peak District"), but this reads (badly) like Lane is situated between Holme Village and the Peak District National Park (Authority) boundary.

Between Holme and the Peak District National Park boundary, which crosses the A6024 Woodhead Road, on the southern edge of the village, then passes along its western edge to Holme village.

Both Lane and Holme Village lie inside the PDNPA boundary - the familiar stone boundary marker does lie further up the A6024 (but appears to be purely for the sake of appearances) - the boundary in this area cuts between Ramsden and Brownhill Reservoir (to the SE of Holme) before passing Holme to the East and along Field Head Lane. Actually you are partially right! Lane is inside the National Park Boundary. However the road running through Holme Village is itself the boundary, or at least the boundary runs alongside of it. My understanding is that from, approximately, the Bus terminus to Field Head Lane, the parts of the village laying to the side of the road on which the Golden Fleece Public house is located are within the boundary. Those across the road are not, nor are those buildings to the northern side of Field Head Lane. Richard Harvey 15:22, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Take a look at the map portal area of the Derbyshire CC website[1] which has a great map system enabling you focus in on Holme down to 1:50,000. It shows the boundary coming up into Holme on the eastern side (i.e. just below the village on the A6024 - prob along the footpath the comes up next to Underhill. I do know for certain that Underhill is included in the Peak District conservation area as the owners are subject to the same planning restrictions that the rest of Holme is. The boundary does then pass on to Field Head Lane, with those on the west of the road included in the boundary.218.102.23.87 05:07, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

How embarassing! I rooted out an old (incorrect) map from my archives that showed an original proposed boundary which followed along the footpath from the footbridge between Ramsden and Brownhill, round Netherly Brow and up the stream past Gill Hey Bridge to the old farm track and then up that to the milestone and into the village. Having now rechecked, using an up-to-date map, I note that the boundary seems to follow a line to the rear of the Castle Hotel, or through the middle of it depending on the map source such as this one:- Multimap location Holme Village

I'm not 100% sure either, but looking at those maps I think it will follow the footpath behind Underhill (immediately next to the Castle Hotel)that goes down to Brownhill res. As I mentioned earlier I do know that the owners of Underhill have been subject to PD conservation area rules concerning alterations to buildings in said area (you have to have certain door/window styles and materials, etc. Cheers!
