I propose to merge Rocco Pantaleo to this article. Outside the restaurant, the subject of that article is entirely non-notable. -- Mattinbgn\talk 02:48, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think the shooting he was involved in and the resulting legal case is also notable. So I think the subject has notability independent of the restaurant. --SJK (talk) 08:20, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, the shooting - while tragic for the victim and his young family - is not notable in the sense of being of lasting encyclopedic value. If Pantaleo was not a restaurateur, there is no way the details of the crime would qualify him for an article as against the overwhelming mass of people who have been found guilty of murder who do not have articles, let alone those who have been, rightly or wrongly, acquitted. -- Mattinbgn\talk 09:06, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Seems like a case of WP:BLP1E in terms of the shooting. If you take that aspect away, the guy was not notable independently of the restaurant. Orderinchaos 09:20, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Neither Rocco Pantaleo nor Keith Lane are alive, so WP:BLP applies to neither of them. I think Rocco Pantaleo is locally notable, in the context of Melbourne, Australia -- notable enough that his death was a news story on TV and the newspaper and the radio; and that reporting mentioned not just the circumstances of his death, but also his business and his prior legal matters. Media stories about fatal traffic accidents normally don't mention the name of the victim, nor recount details of his life. The fact that they did mention his name, and discuss his business, and prior legal issues, is a sign that he is notable. I think the proper criteria of notability for an individual, is not to judge each individual fact or event about an individual, but to consider the totality. So to determine his notability, we shouldn't individually evaluate the notability of his business, the shooting, and his death, considering each in isolation, but rather consider his notability as a whole based on the combination of those three factors. (It's possible that no individual fact about an individual may enough for them to be notable, yet a combination of several distinct facts about them may sum up to make them notable.) --SJK (talk) 08:19, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
At the risk of WP:BEANS, I can think of non-notable individuals who have been the subject of round the clock, non stop coverage for weeks and it still doesn't make them notable as their notability is inextricably linked to one event or entity or thing. Orderinchaos 10:40, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Orderinchaos, I agree there are such individuals. However, I don't think Rocco Pantaleo fits in that category, since as I have argued, there is no one single event or entity or thing which makes him notable, but the cumulation of multiple separate events/facts (primarily the business and the shooting, and secondarily his death) which makes him notable. --SJK (talk) 09:02, 1 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
He's a notable entrepreneur. He founded one of the most successful pizza chains in Australia. We're never going to be short of sources for him, even if we only used the ones published while he was alive. Rebecca (talk) 12:27, 1 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
As entrepreneur, with the manslaughter and his death, it adds up to enough notability in my book. Those things really aren't relevant to the La Porchetta article and that is not the proper home for that information. Format (talk) 07:29, 13 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Does anyone have a citation for Stevometal's addition about Rocco's manslaughterer being shot four days after the accident? I've scoured the web and I can't find even a single reference to it. Believe me, if that had happened in this city it would have been all over the news. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.173.41.114 (talk) 02:58, 5 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've removed that line, there's no evidence of it occurring at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.209.78.10 (talk) 13:41, 5 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
