Case name edit

I have moved this article and edited it to reflect that the correct name of the case is Kramer v. Union Free School District No. 15. (More fully, Kramer v. Union Free School District No. 15, Town of Hempstead.) In New York State, a "union free school district" is one of the types of public school districts created by the Education Law. (The others are common school districts, central school districts, and city school districts. The designation "union free" has long-forgotten historical origins; in answer to a commonly asked question, it has nothing to do with whether the district's personnel belong to labor unions.)

The article was previously under the title Kramer v. Union School District. That was a mistake; there was and is no such place in New York as the Union School District. (There is a Uniondale School District, but that is no relation.)

For anyone curious, in 1973, New York decided that all its school districts should have names instead of numbers. The school district in question is now known as the Lawrence Union Free School District. Newyorkbrad (talk) 02:06, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
