Danish WP:BLP1E edit

http://www.284.dk/slaget%20ved%20gedser.htm (original Danish methinks) http://www.navalhistory.dk/English/History/1945_1989/SlagetVedGedser_1980.htm (translation in English)

The above info is a pair of blog-posts, but the blog-texts are republished (with permission! what is the internet coming to!) from the following publication:

  • Marinehjemmeværnet 50 år 1952-2002, by Jacob Wisby and Helle Kolding (ed.), Forlaget Wisby & Wilkens, Viborg 2002.

The photos in the pieces clearly show Komet, one of the Kondor-class vessels.

There are also photos of three or four newspaper-clippings, from the aftermath of the collision-event with MHV 94. I could not see the mastheads/years, but then, I don't speak Danish.

Neat story, as a bonus.  :-)   — 74.192.84.101 (talk) 03:35, 19 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

books edit

There are three books listed as direct sources on projekt891.de, which is a fansite dedicated to the Kondor. One place gives a page-number, for the first book. The fourth book is the "owner's manual" for the vessel methinks.

Kondor name edit

I haven't found any clear explanation in sources, if Kondor class name was original GDR name, or NATO code, but I am convinced this is NATO code only. Most books just treat it as German class name, which is suspicious, considering, that Warsaw Pact countries in general revealed as little names of military equipment as possible, even in own military press. Moreover, there are no other NATO code names for Kondor, Hai, Krake, Frosch, Libelle, Parchim etc classes. It doesn't seem likely, that GDR revealed these names right after commissioning, so that NATO could use them properly ;) And names like Kondor I, II, Frosch I, II are too similar to names like Kresta I, II...
