This is not correct. In English, a "confectionery shop" would be a shop which sells candy (sweets/lollies/chocolates) and similar products. That is quite different to a shop selling cakes, sweet pastries etc. In English, a Konditorei would be called a cake shop, a patisserie, or a cafe if most of its sales were consumed on the premises.Eregli bob (talk) 23:39, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

I believe the term Konditorei is used in other countries besides Germany, for generally the same meaning, same spelling (but with different pronunciation) such as in Sweden, France, Austria, Vienna, Czech, etc. I don't know if the root of this term is from German? This page should be scrapped

This section (not just this page) is a complete mess. I've just translated a Polish text about desserts and confectionaries, and by following the Polish Cukiernia link I wind up here. My basic problem is that the topic is not covered properly in the English section, so writing a page about German cake shops is insane. Maybe Konditorei is used in other languages but it's certainly not in common parlance in the English language. Perhaps we should also have a separate article about Swedish cake shops or maybe Armenian ones too? The simplest solution to this problem is to dump this page and merge the pages about patisseries and cake shops into one sensible article. This article is so poorly written, therefore it makes it easy to be missing the larger cultural importance of the Konditorei. Firstly, Konditorei exists in many different countries (something you would not know by reading the article in it's current state. Secondly, this isn't just merely a "German cake shop" in many places in the world (beside Germany) a Konditorei is part of a larger cultural event of breakfast and was an early example of a "coffee house". I have heard Konditorei's influenced the development coffee culture in places outside of Europe (Starbucks, etc.) but I have yet to find a citation for that. I understand your complaint, but I think it's because this article needs improvement not because of the subject matter. Jooojay (talk) 00:05, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
