Does this place actually exist? edit

Is there such a place as Komandorski Village? The USGS name link gives a lat/long in the housing section of Camp Parks, which makes me believe that either it's the name of the housing area of the base, or that it ceased to exist when the Navy created Camp Parks in 1943. Anyone know anything more? Argyriou (talk) 18:42, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes it existed, I lived their in 1953, Komandorski was a military housing area just West of the Parks AFB maingate, it was for all military dependents not just AF, I was a Navy dependent 13 yrs old, I had a free run on that base just across the street from our unit, the units were up and down with 8 as i remember per building, I have many pix of this complex if you want a copy. IT DID EXIST AND IT WAS A OLD JAP POW CAMP DURING WW2, THERE MUST HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 500+ DEPENDENTS THEIR IN 53/54. I RODE A BUS TO PLEASANTON TO AMADOR VALLEY JR HIGH. I too lived there in 52-54. I went to Kindergarten in a building within the Komandorski Village complex that housed a little store and a Kindergarten school. I think it was also the property management office as well. My brothers and I also had free run of the Parks Air Force Base, which had a main entrance right across the street from the village. I also attended 1st and 2nd grade in the elementary school on the actual Parks Air Force Base property. We lived in the two story units. There was also an area of single story units as well. My father was in the NAVY at the time. Michael Douglass — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.14.72.40 (talk) 20:36, 15 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

I also lived here during the Vietnam war as my dad was deployed on the USS Midway. At the time I was there 1971-1973, the buildings were painted bright Orange and Green alternating every other building. I don't recall if the base was still open at the time. I was 10 at the time. Then we got housing available at Navy Installation Alameda.Fras2011 (talk) 14:47, 3 March 2017 (UTC) Fras SheyReply

I LIVED AT KOMANDORSKI VILLAGE AND ATTENDED CAMP PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON BASE AS A USN MILITARY BRAT IN THE MID 1950s AND 60s. IT NOT ONLY EXISTED, BUT WAS THE CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF MANY. THOSE LOCATIONS ALSO PLAYED A NOW NOTORIOUS ROLE IN EXPERIMENTS ON THE EFFECTS OF RADIATION ON ANIMALS AND LAND (AND SUBEQUENTLY PEOPLE). I AM NOW 67 YEARS OLD WITH A STORY OF MY OWN TO TELL (WITH THE HELP OF ANOTHER FELLOW KOMANDORSKIAN I MET BY SHEER DIVINE INTERVENTION 57 YEARS AFTER THE FACT). ANYONE WHO WANTS TO COMMUNICATE WITH ME ABOUT KV OR CP, AND SHARE INFO/MEMORIES ABOUT THAT PLACE DURING THAT TIME, I AM CURRENTLY WRITING AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE COVERT (NOW DECLASSIFIED) RADIATION EXPERIMENTS CONDUCTED THERE BY THE USN DURING THE TIME IT WAS OCCUPIED BY MILITARY PERSONNEL, THEIR FAMILIES, AND THE CIVILIAN POPULATION ON BASE AS WELL. THERE IS SOUND REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS OUT THERE WHO WERE UNKNOWINGLY EFFECTED BUT NEVER CONNECTED THEIR HEALTH CONDITIONS AFTER LEAVING KV/CP TO THAT WHICH HAD OCCURRED ON THE GOUNDS WHILE LIVING THERE. DECLASSIFIED INFORMATION RELEASED IN A PUBLICATION FROM 1994 (L.A. TIMES) REVEALED THE STORY OF A THEN YOUNG TEENAGED BOY WHO TENDED TO RADIATED SHEEP DURING THAT TIME (AND HIS STORY/CONCERNS AND THOSE OF A FEW OTHERS IN THAT SAME ARTICLE). MY INTEREST LIES IN WHY THERE IS SO LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CAMP PARKS RADIATION EXPERIMENT AND THOSE AFFECTED BY THE SAME. INTERESTED PARTIES MAY CONTACT ME AT Cozmichealing@gmail.com OR MARLA AT CampParks.Komandorskiradiation@gmail.com -JANET V. 12/07/2021 USNMilitaryBrat67! Demolition of Komandorski edit

The article says demolition was required in 1984, this is not accurate. The demolition began as early as 1978 or so. Every time a building became vacant they would compress the tenants to other buildings so they can destroy the empty ones. Construction of new housing, Arroyo Vista, began in 1981 or so shortly after my family moved out of there. 1984 may have been the year of completion, but it seems it was earlier. 2600:8803:F527:F700:DCD4:5026:7E37:C6F4 (talk) 03:32, 25 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
