Songwriting credits edit
The song - on original labels, sheet music, etc.- is undoubtedly credited to Johnny Gomez and Paul Vance. We know who Johnny Gomez was - a guitarist and occasional bandleader who sometimes worked with Benny Carter, as did Julia Lee. But who was "Paul Vance"? It seems highly unlikely that he was the Paul Vance, born in 1929 as Joseph Paul Florio, who wrote songs like "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini" (1960). That songwriter said that "...his first hit was "Catch a Falling Star,″ recorded by Perry Como" - https://apnews.com/21aa9fda7ffb1fbbefce14582b189cd1. That was released in 1957 when Vance was 27/28 - he would have been 18/19 when "King Size Papa" was released. There is a suggestion here that the "Paul Vance" who co-wrote "King Size Papa" was in fact a pseudonym for Paul Vandervoort II, who is listed separately from the Florio "Paul Vance" at ASCAP. But that raises the question of "who was Paul Vandervoort II"? - to which Google gives no answers. But, I'll remove the link to the Florio "Vance" from the lead as it seems highly probable to me that it is a different person. Views and comments welcome. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:32, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
PS: Some more research (see here, here) suggests that the "Paul Vance" of "King Size Papa" was actually Paul Vandervoort II, who co-wrote with Wingy Manone the 1948 bookTrumpet on the Wing. That seems far more likely. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:53, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
