My Name is Robert Blomberg I was an air traffic controller that day when the C-130 Homer 301 I believe called mayday mayday. I'm one of the air traffic controllers who was working the tower that day he said they had been shot on the departure of kutom airfield and that they had lost hydraulics and could not get one of the wing gear down as i recall the right wing. they also had no way to use the flaps to reduce airspeed flying at about 700 feet they decided to try for Tay ninn instead of landing in a rice field. we saw them maybe 5 klics away giving of a lot a black smoke. We saw the flame were twice as long as the aircraft as it came in to closer view. the pilot sounded calm but that was not really true as I found out later. upon touching down the c-130 did a reverse prop they had no brakes only two gear working one up. the right wing dipped into the landing strip and the aircraft cart wheeled on down the runway stopping the burning thankfully all got out safely one sprained finger was all but the aircraft carried, I heard, powered fuses and maybe flares on pallets, it burned up.
