Copyvio edit

The text that an SPA (probably a publicist) added to the article today can't be used; it's a clear copyvio. Variations on it, all predating its appearance on Wikipedia, can be found here [1] and here [2] and here [3]; there are probably others I haven't turned up yet. I warned the SPA about this earlier, but it seems sterner action may be necessary. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 23:29, 11 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Birthdate edit

Quite odd that in this article it is only "1987/1988" based on interview which states she was 16 on July 2003. Because quite many websites put it as December 12, 1987. Including 5 of 6 other language wikipedias which has this article. 82.141.64.202 (talk) 17:36, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Find some source that meets the standards listed in WP:RS that isn't IMDB that gives her birthdate. The IMDB date is what most other sites, including other wikis and old version of this one, are using but IMDB isn't a WP:reliable source for biographical information as nobody knows where they get their info and it is editable by anonymous people and IMDB doesn't say if or how they verify the anonymous source's info. The current info is all that can be verified, a stated age in a dated interview. Given that the bio info in her official sites does not mention birth date, there is a presumption that she does not want that private information about herself to be known. This is fairly common for actors as they don't want to restrict roles they play. Geraldo Perez (talk) 18:50, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

On her twitter feed today (@KateTodd on 12/12/11), she confirmed that today is her birthday, so can that at least be added? To play devil's advocate, considering that the article cited does not actually ask her for her age, is it not possible the author simply looked it up on IMDB? I doubt "How old are you?" was actually asked at the interview, the section giving her age is outside of the interview itself, and it cites no sources for the information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.2.150.192 (talk) 14:37, 12 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

The twitter link for her comment is [4]. She only said "These pretty sweet 'happy birthday' tweets !" and didn't actually confirm or deny that today is her birthday. She is replying to people wishing her happy birthday and today is probably it. The article used as a reference mentioned her age at the date of the interview and did ask a question related to her, at the time, recent age change to 16. Presume that the subject of a published article is aware of the article being published, reviewed the article and would ask for corrections of incorrect factual data. As a related observation. I am trying to change incorrect birth info at IMDb for an actor and have link to a source to support the change. As part of the process I noted that IMDb makes it extremely difficult for the subject of an IMDb article to correct their own birthdate and impossible to remove it. I guess IMDb doesn't trust actors to tell the truth. --Geraldo Perez (talk) 16:08, 12 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

That standard seems suspect to me, but I guess that's why I don't post to Wikipedia frequently. If we're going to presume that the subject of an article will verify its contents, why can we not do the same about their IMDB page? Considering she links to her IMDB page from her Twitter account, she clearly checks it and considers it to be a good source for fans to find information about her, which she presumably wouldn't do if it were inaccurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.2.150.192 (talk) 16:18, 12 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

The difference is with an interview she knows who the interviewer is and how to contact that person. IMDb is kind of impersonal and it is very hard to correct wrong information, even by the subject. The IMDb info is probably correct but IMDb still does not meet WP:RS standards, we don't know how they got their info, they won't tell us, and we can't independently verify any of it. We treat IMDb as another type of user edited wiki and treat them the same as they treat Wikipedia in terms of being a reliable source of info. Geraldo Perez (talk) 18:36, 12 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think the tweet confirms it's her birthday. 117Avenue (talk) 03:02, 13 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
