"Kate Ní Cnaimhín"

There's bit of an editor war going on with an IP who insists on the unsupported name "Kate Ní Cnaimhín". The sources used only give "Kate McNiven", "Kate Nevin" and "Kate M'Niven". The IP has created a cut-and-paste copy of this article at Kate Ní Cnaimhín and removed a 'citation needed' template. I'm not sure how to handle this if they aren't willing to listen.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 10:17, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

The "Name" section contains a bunch of unrelated weblinks, none of which contain the English-Irish hybrid "Kate Ní Chnáimhín". You can't take unrelated weblinks and bundle them up together to form an original and unverifiable claim (see WP:SYNTHESIS). You can't take one link which says one thing, and another link which says something else, and then add them together to create an independent claim which neither of them made. The undo emphasis the article places on that name is striking. Also, the weblink in the "After Death" section does not support the claim that the "Graemes of Inchbrakie incorporated the 3 Cresent Moons of the Nevins into the Shield of their own Coat of Arms".--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 05:18, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

It's reasonably plain (even to a Sassenach) that this form of the name sounds distinctly Irish. Also it's clear that while the Niven/Nevin forms are in wide use, the hybrid form is not. There is certainly no cause here for a cut-and-paste duplicate article - a redirect is more than sufficient. Chiswick Chap (talk) 06:47, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

About the heraldry, the IP has added two refs, but neither of them seem to support the claim. Scottish Ghosts by Lily Seafield is previewable on GoogleBooks. I've searched for the following words without any hits: "Nevin", "McNevin", "Monzie", "coat of arms", "crescent". The other cited ref, The Holocaust, Or, The Witch of Monzie, is viewable here: [1]. I read the 'preliminary remarks' on Kate and could not find anything about heraldry. I didn't bother reading the author's poetry, but I searched the text for "crescent", "heraldry", "coat of arms" and didn't turn up anything about heraldry.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 06:54, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
