Summary box confusing edit

The summary box is very confusing. "Closed: Open" doesn't make any sense at all and it seems rather strange to claim that the stadium was demolished in 2003 but will continue to be used by Olympiacos until 2052. This could probably be phrased better: perhaps something like "Previous stadium demolished: 2003"?

Location edit

Location: Neo Faliro, Piraeus, Athens, Greece

Now what is it, Piraeus or Athens? Aren't these two separate (albeit geographically close) cities? Guus Hoekman 08:46, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

No they are not separate geographically. Piraeus is one of the municipalities which form the Athens urban area, and the municipalities which form greater Piraeus are considered the western suburbs of Athens. - Sthenel 11:47, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Piraeus (pronounced /paɪˈriːəs/; Modern Greek: Πειραιάς, Peiraiás, [piɾɛˈas], Ancient Greek: Πειραιεύς, Peiraieús) is a city in the periphery of Attica, Greece and within the Athens urban area,[2] located 12 km southwest of its center and upon the Saronic Gulf. The City of Piraeus - Metalnations

Stadium edit

It used to be a stadium, it is now a football ground. Should there be a separate page for the new Karaiskakis, or should this be mentioned in this article. In Greek the venue is sometimes still referred to mistakenly as Karaiskakis Stadium, while since its reconstruction it is officially a football ground. This is because it has no track around it that would allow it to host athletics events.Dienekes7 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:33, 3 August 2009 (UTC).Reply

8th Match Against Poverty edit

I believe a paragraph should be added referring to the "match against poverty” held in Karaiskakis Stadium in 2010.

Here is a sample paragraph that can be used if appropriate >>>>>> On the 11th of December 2010, The Karaiskakis Stadium held the 8th “Match Against Poverty” an event established by the UNDP Goodwill Ambassadors Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane. The event was a sold-out and 33.000 spectators attended the friendly match the main goal of which was to support the people affected by the Haiti earthquake, occurred earlier that year. >>>>

Edit war edit

You have a month to discuss your differences and come to a consensus. If you shop around and make complaints about this, you are asking for a disruption block. I am speaking to Jjik43, Chalk19, and anyone else involved in this ridiculous edit war. KillerChihuahua 18:33, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello, i think like the talk page section Location the location of the stadium is Neo faliro, Piraeus, Athens--Jjik43 (talk) 20:41, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello. The postal address of the stadium is: Karaoli & Dimitriou Avenue, 18547 Piraeus Attica [1]. I don't see the word Athens anywhere.--79.130.49.24 (talk) 21:03, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

"Karaikakis Stadium is located in the south-western Athens suburb of Piraeus. It lies on the edge of Piraeus city centre and about 2.5 kilometres east from the port. Central Athens is about 7 kilometres away." https://www.stadiumguide.com/karaiskaki/ --Jjik43 (talk) 21:11, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

There is no reason to repeat myself, although Jjik43's persistence counts on that, namely that this is a very disturbing and time consuming situation for me, since I had been doing this extensively @ el/WP, where their views have been rejected as unproductive, and trollish. So, please read carefully what I have written @ Talk:Neo Phaliron Velodrome, because my reasoning applies in this case too, it's almost identical. I will just add the following, because this is a case of cross-wiki abusive editing (conducted by Jjik43, their IPs, and user Trefoil13, disguised as "content dispute"; for more on the backround of this case, a spillover from el/WP, see Piraeus vs. Athens @ my talk page) :

  • Jjik43's favorite "pro-Athens", actually "anti-Piraeus", version of the Greek article has been finally reverted by global rollbacker Ah3kal, commenting "δεν υπάρχει λόγος, υπάρχει συζήτηση στην οποία δεν συνεισφέρετε κάτι ουσιώδες" (=no reason [for this version], there is an ongoing discussion [at the talk page] with no substantial contribution from your [=Jjik43] part). There were a discussion among Ah3kal, myself, Jjik43, and an IP with arguments identical to those of Jjik43, leading nowhere. Finally, a sysop suggested to me and Ah3kal to stop talking to these trolls (Jjik43and the IP) [18].
  • IPs have tried to impose Jjik43's favorite "pro-Athens"/"anti-Piraeus" version in the German article for the Stadium, but their changes (from the original "in Piräus, Griechenland" to "in Piräus bei Athen") had been always reverted as unproductive by several users of de/WP (examples: [19], [20], [21]) who have no connection to el/WP. This is a strong indication of the cross-wiki trollish nature of this "pro-Athens"/"anti-Piraeus" oparation.
  • Finally, a few words about Jjik43's sources, and the use of the word "Athens". I won't question the reliabilty of some of them. Obviously, someone stating in a webpage that Piraeus is an "Athens suburb" doesn't know a thing on Greek history, or geography. But this is not the point. Jjik43's arguements rely on a trick: that "Athens" as a word has several different meanings, depending on context: it may indicate anything ranging (geographcally, administratively etc.) between the City of "Athens and Attica as a whole (sometimes even further). Then, this ambiguity, or "universality" is turned against Piraeus, which is their main target (because of the established rivalry between the two cities (cf. Derby of the eternal enemies). Finally, Jjik43's out of context reasoning isn't far way from someone who would have accordingly claimed that Charleroi is in Brussels, because there is located an airport serving Brussels, the Brussels South Charleroi Airport, and who -besides mentioning the airport own title with "Brussels" in it- could bring as evidence thousands of sources referring to Charleroi as a Brussels airport.

First stop insult the different opinion than yours. In German Wikipedia is only from Wikipedia language who is active the vrahomarinaner and revert the Athens because as admin says in German Wikipedia have only articles about municipalities and not cities. In other like French and Spanish revert the vrahomarinaner which everyday remove Athens unsourced. Second, I know very good history and geography and I live in the region--Jjik43 (talk) 09:10, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • addeda It must be clear to everybody that this is not really a contest dispute. This is part of a cross-wiki "anti-Piraeus" effort by a "block" of two accounts and several IPs. This is easily shown in the similar case of the Eurobasket 1987 edit war. Greece was the host country (officially I think there was no host city), and the games were held at the Peace and Friendship Stadium, located in Piraeus. The article was saying "It was held in Greece between 3 and 14 June 1987. […] The Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus was the hosting venue of the tournamen". So, an IP changed the last sentence to "The Peace and Friendship Stadium in Athens, Greece was the hosting venue of the tournament", which is comic and absurd. I tried a better version (both geographically, and in context), "The Peace and Friendship Stadium, located in the Neo Faliron district of Piraeus, near Athens, was the hosting venue of the tournament", but the IPs started an edit war against me, accusing me of "Vandalism". Therefore it is beyond any doubt that this group of users and IPs have a completely disruptive and unconstructive attitude. Even more, on Sept. 13th 2019 because of the edit war the 2 IPs have started, I filed a request for semi-protection, and after a few minutes user Jjik43 appeared out of the blue there to commment on my request, by accusing me that I vandalize the article, and by implying that I am sock of indef blocked user [22]! Finally, the article was semi-protected, and the IPs version reverted by a sysop, so mine was restored. Of course, the otherwise very mouthy user Jjik43 didn't dare neither to call the admin a vandal, nor to undo their version [23]. Now you have all you need to get the whole picture right. ——Chalk19 (talk) 11:28, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

What Reply in this paranoic things and inslults by Chalk19? If to revert unsourced edits and references removes from vrahomarinaner and return to previous version which agreed with the previous location section on the talk page is vandalism, comic thing anti piraeus trolling, anti piraeus effort. I can't reply in this insults--Jjik43 (talk) 12:31, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

And Eurobasket of Athens 1987 the admin who make the decision of semi protection [24] wrote "I have no idea who is right there" and in Italian, French and Portuguese article of Peace and friendship stadium the admins revert the Vrahomarinaner who remove the Athens.--Jjik43 (talk) 13:05, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

And i think is different but in Greek Wikipedia vrahomarinaner make repeatable edit which remove Athens from events take place in Peace and Friendshio stadium (SEF) and Karaiskakis stadium and admin like cubic star and other revert the edits [25], [26], [27], [28], [29], etc --Jjik43 (talk) 13:28, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ownership edit

The stadium appears to be owned by the Hellenic Olympic Committee. In 2003, a lease for use, but not ownership, was granted to Olympiakos. I've seen that on several sources, including this one, and while they're not great sources, I think the current wording should stay until a reliable source with contrary information is discovered.
