Magnitude edit

Can someone please explain where the combined magnitude figure of 4.25 comes from? Unless the system used to be substantially brighter in the past, I don't see how 4 faint stars of mag 5.1, 7.74, 7.8 and 8.2 can combine to make 4.25. Just now, my brother calculated it for me and it came out as +4.87, and according to the Bright Star Catalogue (5th Revised Ed) it's +4.86. Everywhere online I see the 4.25 figure. Have all the websites simply copied the Wikipedia info? Markusdow (talk) 02:38, 29 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it looks to be an error. The 4.25 value appears to come from Hipparcos. The Bright Star Catalogue lists 4.86. Praemonitus (talk) 14:56, 15 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
