"Disbanded" edit
... until it was disbanded in May 1945.
Interesting article. However, I believe every single unit of the Luftwaffe — not to mention the Wehrmacht and the Kriegsmarine — were "disbanded" in May 1945, when Nazi Germany itself was disbanded with its unconditional surrender to the Allies. Sca (talk) 00:34, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
5th Panzer Division edit
"From 4–10 August it [KG 54] flew support operations in the Avranches area to assist the 5th Panzer Division" – which is a DAB page.
Both 5th Panzer Division (Wehrmacht) and 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking were on the eastern front. The dates are around the start of Operation Lüttich (7 August 1944), and the location (Avranches, in Allied hands when Lüttich started) looks right. Von Kluge had managed to cobble together a force which included (from the Lüttich article) "2nd Panzer Division, 116th Panzer Division, the 2nd SS Panzer Division and part of the 1st SS Panzer Division". That line-up agrees with Carlo D'Este, Decision in Normandy, p.418 (Pan, 1983), ISBN 0 330 28379 0, listed in Lüttich's sources. I suspect that "5th" may be an error for "2nd" (by then down to 25 tanks), but this needs checking. Narky Blert (talk) 16:17, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
