I would like to know who is irresponsible enough to admit that list of "Presidents" of Cataluña. Most of them are actually kings of France or kings of Spain, as well as Counts of different territories which should not be admitted as being "Cataluña" or "Catalunya". From an historical POV, Catalunya should never been accepted as an entity independant of Spain, exception made of the three or four hours that General Batet needed to suffocate the rebellion that tried to turn Cataluña into "The Independent Republic of Catalunya".

It's true that Montilla and the others are strictly presidents of the Generalitat (which is how they are described in the body of the article). Nonetheless, many modern Catalans regard them as presidents of Catalonia. No-one should be offended by this; no matter what you might think of Catalanism or Catalan nationalism, there is surely no reason the leader of an autonomous (rather than independent) territory should not be referred to as its "president". BTW, none of the people in the list (for which incidentally I am not responsible) was a king of either France or Spain. AdeMiami

1- It is completely absurd to "translate" Generalitat as "Generality". It is always left in Catalan in English texts.

2- Montilla's wife is known as Anna Hernández, and not Ana Hernández (see e.g. www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2006/11/28/espana/1164714909.html)

3- The Barcelona provincial council is known as the Diputació (not Diputación) de Barcelona (see www.diba.cat). There is not a shred of sense in using a Spanish word in an English text in reference to an institution whose customary name is Catalan. AdeMiami
