Merge from Joliet Union Station edit

They are roughy the same station, and are in the same location. Likely should have a singular article. This "new" station is arguably a reconstruction of the previous. Many stations that were rebuilt merit only one article for the previous and current iterations, such as the Ogilvie Transportation Center and Millennium Station. A sub-section can be created to discuss the historic old station building.SecretName101 (talk) 12:11, 25 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
A Wikipedia editor (myself) tried to maintain a single article for two train-depot structures in Dwight, Illinois after the historic depot was closed and replaced by a modern new station across the street. A look at the Dwight station talk page shows what then happened: another editor advocated that the articles be split, giving three reasons: (a) the historic train station and the currently-in-use train station serve different purposes, (b) one is a NRHP site and the other is an Amtrak depot so they should have separate userboxes, and (c) they have different geographical coordinates. I found those arguments convincing, and so set them forth here for discussion for everyone to think about and talk in good faith. Bigturtle (talk) 22:27, 26 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

I think that they should be kept apart in this case, and agree with points above by Bigturtle. A key point between the Joliet stations and Olgivie and Millennium stations is that the renovation included demolition of the previous structure, and was in the same location. Here, Joliet Union Station still exists. GFOLEY FOUR!— 22:46, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

My understanding is that both the new and old stations are part of the same complex, Gateway Center.SecretName101 (talk) 02:32, 7 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Oppose merge, keeping the independently notable Joliet Union Station separate; history going back to 1912, listed on National Register of Historic Places, 4-year gap between close of Joliet Union Station and Joliet Transportation Center also demonstrates a lack of continuity. Current structure works, and no need to change. Klbrain (talk) 07:37, 7 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Oppose: two physical buildings, history of old station merits its own article. Mjdestroyerofworlds (talk) 17:18, 7 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
