Münster was occupied only 1802 by Prussia and at the time of Walbachs birth still see of the prince-bishopric of Münster.213.71.6.130 (talk) 09:46, 11 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
True, but that's the wrong Münster, though. You're describing Münster in Westphalia, Germany, a different town than Munster, Haut-Rhin (Upper Rhine) in Alsace, which belonged to France at the time of his birth and does again today. His bios refer to Munster of the Upper Rhine and the valley of the St. Gregory -- these are Alsace. This Münster was held by Germany for a short period during which Walbach's main biographies were written, thus the descriptions of him as a German. Perhaps his Alsatian accent sounded German; maybe he even at times identified as German, though I have no record of that. He corresponded in French; his father and brother are described in multiple accounts as Frenchmen. Glad someone's interested in my ggggrandfather, though!
