This is the same Speed who placed Richard III's burial in Leicester's Blackfriars, when he was actually in the Greyfriars.

Price of prints

Speed prints do not command prices of "hundreds of thousands of pounds". Whole atlases might, as the reference states, but even that is only a prediction about an auction, not an established fact. Moreover, the reference says the price might surpass 100,000, not "hundreds of thousands." It would be correct to replace "of" by "or" in "hundreds of thousands", but the reference does not directly confirm this. Therefore I replaced the whole assertion about price with a statement that Speed maps "are in high demand", which the reference does justify.

It would be reasonable to delete the entire topic, but someone else may do that Mdmi (talk) 21:44, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

The Kingdome of Scotland

This article is missing reference to his map The Kingdome of Scotland, a revision of a 1610 map, so it must have been completed some time before he died in 1630; it was posthumously published in 1662. I learned of it here.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  22:47, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

Famous?

[Speed] is among the most famous of English mapmakers.

Are English mapmakers actually famous? In their day, did fans maintain vigils outside their abodes, hoping for a glimpse of them as they came and went? Could you stop someone in the street today, ask them to name a few famous mapmakers, and Speed's name would most likely be among them? This is a social phenomenon to which I've not previously had the pleasure of being exposed, but I'm prepared to be impressed, cartographically speaking. – AndyFielding (talk) 13:13, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
