Untitled edit

Internet sources differ as to Shippen's finish in 1896, some saying the came tied sixth and others that he came fifth or that the won fifth prize. I have assumed that he was indeed sixth but was the fifth professional, which is the only way to reconcile these reports, but I am not certain that this is correct. The other possibility is that some of the sources are simply wrong. Internet sources also differ on whether he played in four or five further U.S. Opens. Osomec 28 June 2005 11:10 (UTC)
