material removed edit

I have removed material from this article that does not comply with our policy on the biographies of living persons. Biographical material must always be referenced from reliable sources, especially negative material. Negative material that does not comply with that must be immediately removed. Note that the removal does not imply that the information is either true or false.

Please do not reinsert this material unless you can provide reliable citations, and can ensure it is written in a neutral tone. Please review the relevant policies before editing in this regard. Editors should note that failure to follow this policy may result in the removal of editing privileges.--Scott MacDonald (talk) 11:46, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your edit was inappropriate. You removed almost all of a well-referenced article. If you take issue with SPECIFIC points, feel free to tag them with a cite tag or remove them if they are inflammatory, but simply removing the whole article, most of which was fine and unusually well-sourced, is not the right move. I've restored it. -Elmer Clark (talk) 21:39, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I may have mistakenly removed referenced material, sorry. However, you have deliberately re-instated unreferenced negative material, which is worse. Better always to have good stuff out, than bad stuff in - see WP:BLP. Anyway I've removed the correct unreferenced material now. Fee free to reinsert with a reference.--Scott MacDonald (talk) 22:03, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Whoops, overlooked that somehow. Looks good now. -Elmer Clark (talk) 00:02, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Information added by User:58.173.162.52 edit

Between the deletion of most of the article by User:Scott MacDonald and my reinsertion of it (see above), User:58.173.162.52 made some good edits adding info. However, I suspect that the reversion of the deletion makes most of it redundant. If not, here it is for future reintegration:

Rugby League career
Hopoate debuted for the Manly Sea Eagles in 1993 scoring 62 tries in his first stint with the club between 1993 and 1999. He made his first and only appearance for the NSW Blues State of Origin team in 1995 and in the same year made his only two appearances for the Australian Kangaroos. In 2000 he moved to national competition newcomers Wests Tigers where he became notorious for the finger poking incident. He moved to the Northern Eagles at the end of 2001, a club that was formed as a merger between his former club Manly and the North Sydney Bears. In 2002 the merger team folded and Manly returned as a stand alone club in their place. Hopoate signed with Manly for the 2002 season and stayed until 2005 as a permanent first grade starting winger. In 2005 however he was sacked after numerous on field discrepencies culminating in a wayward head high tackle on then rookie Cronulla Sharks prop Keith Galloway. He was suspended for 17 games by the NRL judiciary but was sacked by Manly and subsequently retired from the sport.
Boxing career
After his sacking and subsequent retirement from rugby league, Hopoate started training to become a professional boxer. He made his in ring debut on May 17, 2006 on the undercard to the bout between Anthony Mundine and Danny Green which was said to be the most watched fight in Australian boxing history. He debuted with a 10 second first round knockout of Frank Faa'solo, a relative unknown boxer with a record of 1-2 at the time. He continued to take fights throughout 2006 and 2007 winning his first six via knockout and never going past five rounds. On March 30, 2007, Hopoate suffered his first defeat in his seventh fight going down via a six round split decision to Brian Fitzgerald. He was again defeated less than a month later in a first round technical knockout to former two time Australian kickboxing champion Ben Edwards in Edwards's professional boxing debut. He got his career back on track a month later with a second round TKO of Terry Tuteru and followed that with a victory over the man who first defeated him, Brian Ftizgerald via fifth round TKO. After brushing aside Sio Vitale in April, 2008 he challenged Australian heavyweight champion Bob Mirovic to a title fight which was booked for September 10. On that night he defeated Mirovic to become Australian heavyweight champion via a 9th round TKO.

Footnotes/References edit

The footnotes and references are set up in a really unusual way in this article, and the in-line citations consequently do not correctly link to their corresponding reference (except for the one in the "footnotes" section). I'm not familiar with the citation technique used in this article - it may just be a mistake - so I'll see if someone who knows how it's supposed to work shows up. If not, I'll convert them to the usual method using the reflist template. -Elmer Clark (talk) 21:49, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Now referenced in the usual manner. WWGB (talk) 08:01, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Rise of Gaudeamus Igitur edit

The references don't seem to support the section. Also, I can't find anything on the web about it. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:05, 7 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I was just checking this out. Seems like either a hoax or just WP:OR. I suggest removing it. --Jimbo[online] 01:19, 7 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've removed it. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:01, 7 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
