There is a page in Wikipedia for John H. Aulick. This page should also be added to the "American Admirals" due to his active duty as a commodore (generally considered as equivalent to "flag officer" status).

I don't know where the information for John Aulick comes from, but the rationale behind him leaving command for the Japanese voyage is erroneous. William Neumann, in his 1963 book "America Encounter Japan: From Perry to MacArthur", explains that Aulick received orders directly from the Secretary of Navy dismissing him from command due to charges made against his conduct on a past voyage. Although they were later dropped, it was the reason he was dropped from command and unceremoniously replaced by Commodore Perry. (Neumann, William L.
