This article lacked a single source until today. The militiaman (1707–1789) appears to be the namesake of Fort Ashby, and is not to be confused with his nephew, Capt. John Ashby (1740-1815). Sources both historic and modern may confuse them, so please use highest quality academic sources to avoid confusion. Additional sources include Virginia Genealogies, and West Virginians in the American Revolution. User-generated/unreliable but helpful genealogy sites include WikiTree, Geni, and FamilySearch. --Animalparty! (talk) 21:07, 19 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
