Pickerton Lumber Legend edit

My mother was born in Joaquin TX and lived there until 1946. Her grandfather worked for the lumber mill. This was owned by the Garrett's, and was located in Haslem, between Joaquin and Logansport LA. The mill was dismantled and moved to another location around 1936. By no stretch of the imagination could Joaquin be called a 'booming town' during this time.

MaMa never heard of the Pickerton Lumber company, nor anything resembling the "Pickerton Lumber Legend."

Is the story about William H. Pickerton and his lumber mill associated with the right Joaquin? It really needs a citation.

The nearest I have found to the "Pickerton Lumber Company" in Joaquin TX is the Pickering Lumber Company.

The Pickering Lumber Company established a sawmill in Haslem TX about 1913 and ceased operating in Shelby County in 1931. The mill was later sold to W.C.Garrett who operated it as a hardwood mill under the name of "May Brothers."
