Coromines or Corominas? edit

In his DCECH, he signs as Joan Corominas. Joan is clearly Catalan. Why did he use Coromines in Catalan and Corominas in Spanish? --Error 18:48, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure it makes sense to translate surnames from catalan to spanish. It should be always "Coromines". I guess there could be the possibility that the name had originally been written as "Corominas" in the spanish registry and then (in exile or when democracy was reinstated in Spain) he might have changed it to the form "Coromines" which is more genuinely catalan. But then it would make more sense to say something like "sometimes also spelled as Corominas" than to suggest that surnames should be translated from catalan to spanish. There is some explanation of this issue in a note at the end of the Spanish-language wikipedia article. It does seem to be a Catalan versus Castilian issue. It seems that he adopted the "a" spelling for a while, and then reverted to the "e" spelling. This is very confusing indeed if you're trying to buy his books on the internet, for example through a certain well-known online bookstore.
