Talk:Jezus Leeft

Latest comment: 5 months ago by Estar8806 in topic Requested move 28 November 2023

Title edit

All of the sources talk about "Jezus Leeft" or "Jezus redt", none of them mentioning an English translation. I propose to move the article to the Dutch title "Jezus Leeft", giving the English translation between parentheses in the first sentence. --Randykitty (talk) 19:41, 24 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Randykitty, I agree, the article should be renamed. It seems that the party refers to itself as "Jezusleeft", (https://www.jezusleeft.nl) but is listed in the results for the recent European Elections as "JEZUS LEEFT". Jesus LivesJezus Leeft – Per the, admittedly, old discussion above.

Furthermore, almost all sources in this article, and those that I can see when searching for the party, and the party's own website, www.jezusleeft.nl refer to itself as "Jezus Leeft", or w/ some various combination. Jezus Leeft is the one I've seen most regularly - so I listed it here - if there's another more used alternative, I'd support it being renamed to that. The current title can be transformed into a redirect if there isn't any other notable thing by this name. It doesn't seem logical to keep this page as the title esp. when it's not being referred to by this name.

Would appreciate feedback,

Support Seems reasonable. Koopinator (talk) 17:57, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support, I can't help feeling that the current title should cover something else. BD2412 T 16:00, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Strongly oppose - that's because "Jeezus Leeft" is in a different language, Dutch, and has been translated into English "Jesus Lives". All political parties in the Netherlands have article titles which have been translated into English. You can find a whole list of the articles at "List of political parties in the Netherlands". This move would break that formatting/precedent. aaronneallucas (talk) 20:46, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

The choice between anglicized and local spellings should follow English-language usage

WP:UE. As mentioned in my argument, the sources in the article refers to it as "Jezus Leeft". The only English language source introduces it as 'Jezus Leeft', followed by a translation. Moshe1022 (talk) 20:53, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Furthermore - since there is a lack of English sources about the article - WP:UE states that

If there are too few reliable English-language sources to constitute an established usage, follow the conventions of the language appropriate to the subject

  • Support per nom. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:44, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support as far less ambiguous than the current title, which is also a generic Christian slogan in English (albeit an article for that slogan wouldn't have the second word capitalized). Plus, as others have mentioned, the sources present it translated. Bensci54 (talk) 18:04, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
