Although the article wants a citation, if you look back at his movies like Raven, you see the intro where he is performing some kicks. In particular, one jumping kick where he hits with the leading foot. The execution is very good so he must have had a lot of training. I thus assume from the kick alone in the intro, the statement that he had martial arts training must be factually correct.
