Assessment edit

I am assessing this article following a request at WP:WPSCH/A, and I am giving it Start-class across the board, although due to various problems I'm not giving it a grade higher than that at this time. To be to the point, this article reads like an advertisement, and some sections probably need to be re-written. Its good to see a picture of the school in the article, but the infobox normally contains the school's log uploaded under as non-free content under the non-free content criteria, with photographs spread out in the article itself. The infobox is otherwise okay, although the lead should fully introduce and summarize the article and the current one needs expanding - see WP:LEAD.

The school's age suggests it may deserves more than low-importance, though there isn't enough content to justify a higher rating at this time. In any case, I'm sure the history section justifies more than one paragraph. In an encyclopedia what happened to the school in 1905 is as important as what happened in 2011, and the statistics section is a good example of what is known as recentism. Statistics are only of limited interest to readers, and do tend to read like advertisements. Most of the article should be in prose and any results information should be concise and integrated into an academics section - see WP:WPSCH/AG#S. The "Extracurricular accomplishments" also reads like an advertisement, with even the name of the section being problematic given the use of a peacock term (it should be called extracurricular activities). This section should also be in prose, with a neutral summary of what extracurricular activities the school engages in, not a list of accomplishments - the latter violates WP:NPOV. It is good to see a notable alumni section, though references are needed here per WP:V/WP:BLP. There probably isn't any need to divide between those that graduated and those that didn't - the term graduate can be confusing anyway, as outside the US it is only used to refer to those who have finished a degree at a university, and articles need to cater to a worldwide English speaking audience, so the meaning needs to be briefly explained if it is to stay.

Overall, this article has much potential, but unfortunately it has gone in the wrong direction in places - a review of WP:WPSCH/AG#WNTI is a must to avoid pitfalls in expanding school articles. CT Cooper · talk 16:01, 15 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
