The citation is in: "Meet Jeff Beck" (September 27, 2006). JohnMayer.com. [1].

So I don't have much time and I'm trying to be helpful. What the hell is this sentence at the end of the first paragraph. "He was also ranked fourth greatest rock guitarist of all time in Digital Dream Door.com, a site that ranks movies and music[3]. MSNBC has called him a "guitarist's guitarist".[4]" This sounds like spam and doesn't contribute much to the article at all. Can someone look at this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.223.182.189 (talk) 20:20, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Health Reasons

health reasons are cited for being part of the reason of beck's departure from the yardbirds. can anyone clarify or elaborate on this?--Elysianfields 05:16, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

it was reported tnat jeff didn't like the movie, blow-up, as he was trying to hide a hard-on and that is why he smashed his guitar. however, about 20 years later, jeff said that he had a nervous breakdown on stage and no one knew about it until after filming. the yardbirds put him into treatment. whether that was the reason he left the yardbirds, all together, is another story.

I heard he said it was an health problem, but later the yardbirds dudes discovered he was just hanging around with his girlfriend. he left them on tour while in america and he stayd with this girl. I read that somewhere but I can't really back it up in any way. I don't really think that he didn't like the movie and destroyed the guitar because he had a "hard-on". maybe he destroyed the guitar becasue the film's ending is all about exploding things... ;-)

It seems odd to me that there is no mention that Beck was suspected in the 1960's of contracting meningitis. I have a clear memory of the news and believe it was around 1966—7. I'm equally sure that it affected his Yardbirds activity, at least on a temporary basis. After a cursory search, though, I wonder if it will be easy to find a valid citation to support it. As far as I can recall, it wasn't a reason why he left the band. Twistlethrop (talk) 03:45, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

MySpace?

I'm sorry but I feel the myspace comment needs to be erased from this entry. MySpace bands does not allow people to put up fan profiles for bands.. and that includes for Jeff Beck. --Drowse 01:29, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Jeff Beck Group

Should the band's own page be expanded or merged here ?

Either way, who was in the band 1969 - 72 ?

-- Beardo 04:23, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I'd say no as the band had its own history and was influential in its own right. Plus it spawned the career of Rod Stewart (in which he was pivotal in garnering attention to the group), in which placing all just for Jeff Beck's bio page wont really be doing justice to the band nor members part of it...

Sgt. Pepper

What is the comment about Frampton trying to say ?

Is Beck on that album ?

-- Beardo 05:10, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Beck is saying that after he heard Peter Frampton use a talkbox effect on his guitar on the Sgt. Pepper's movie soundtrack, he gave up using the effect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.125.110.223 (talk) 21:47, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ho Silver Lining

One of the most memorable early tracks - could someone insert a reference and explanation of when and with whom that song was released? DWaterson 01:27, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Discography???

I'm very suprised at the lack of a discography section in this article, if someone could construct one (even with just the list of albums in chronological order) it would be appreciated

I somewhat cleaned up the discography section, so just let me know what you think. :P --72.223.63.167 (talk) 02:32, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Controversy

I removed this following entry on the page, if someone can clarify it could be put back up:

"There is an ongoing rumor that Jeff Beck was actually a 'part', played by a clever, behind-the-scenes songwriter and the concert showman who was seen in the public eye. It is alluded that "Jeff Beck" is the joint work of these two unindentified people. These reports have neither been denied or confirmed." Cdwillis 17:16, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I have continously put "heavy metal" under the genre section, someone keeps deleting it despite the fact that in the FIRST PARAGRAPH it cites him as a heavy metal musician. This may require lockdown.

Guitar Smashing

Is Jeff Beck really known for his guitar smashing antics? I thought that was Pete Townshend (and Jimi Hendrix sometimes). I know Beck destroys his guitar in Blow Up, but I haven't seen any other Yarbirds footage were he does, or even heard of him doing it on stage for that matter.--Bappzannigan 22:09, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

No, he isn't really known for it. Michelangelo Antonioni witnessed The Who smash their equipment, not the Yardbirds. I'm adding a citation to reflect that and fixing the paragraph. Clashwho 20:22, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

IIRC Beck has said he was reluctant to do it, as he didn't want to be seen as stealing Townshend's act —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.125.110.223 (talk) 21:50, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

First name.

I'm gonna remove the constant "Jeff Beck" in the trivia section. It's obvious that Beck refers to him in this context. It sounds like a bloody Chuck Norris-fest right now.

Jeff Beck doesn't need a pick. Jeff Beck can play the guitar just by thinking about it.

that's clever! :-D

--Also if someone would clean up the phrasing and gushing tone of the article, that'd be great. I mean, he's awesome, but it sounds like a 15-year-old fan wrote this entire section. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you hate clicking, DO NOT click here. 07:18, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Dear friend, most of (almost all) articles regarding popular music sound like some 15-year old fans wrote them. After all, it is obvious that musicians, most of academics and professional journalists are too busy to get involved with Wikipedia and its rules. Am I wrong?Dr. Who 22:39, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Any Info on The Boot w/SRV

We normally include as much discography as possible (within reason) and I'm wondering why neither the Stevie ray Vaughn, nor Jeff Beck page make reference to a recording that they did in '89. Anyone have any info on this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Brian Stegner (talkcontribs) 21:36, 17 April 2007 (UTC).

never heard of a beck/SRV album: if it exists, record executives would have had it printed long time ago. there're a lot of bootlegs from the tour they did back in '89. at the end of the show they used to jam together, so every P2P network is full of "beck/srv" songs, but they're just bootleg live recordings

Picture

Their has to be a better picture out there to represent him than that —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.106.44.131 (talk) 00:32, 11 May 2007 (UTC).

  • Sure. All you need to do is find one that's free use. Tabercil 00:40, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

BBA

Perhaps something should be said about the collaboration with the tandem Bogert-Appice. The project should have started after the end of Vanilla Fudge but somehow did not, so we got a few Cactus albums instead. And when it really started, it was disappointing, but now we do not remember...al 21:44, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Bass Player on Crossroads

I just noticed that Tal Wilkenfeld was playing bass for Beck on the Crossroads show, and corresponding tour, yet this isnt mentioned in the corresponding section of this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.59.186.111 (talk) 06:22, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

This might be good to mention in the article. New article at Tal Wilkenfeld. Badagnani 04:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Beck, Bogert and Appice

There is something not quite right in this article. Although Beck's car accident delayed things for 10 months the three piece band did complete an album named "Beck, Bogert and Appice", had a moderately successful single with a cover of "Superstition" and undertook a multi-date tour of European capital cities and a later tour of the far East, including Japan (where a live album was recorded and later released in Japan). Formed in 1972 the band was together until late 1974. The short lived Cactus had broken up before the BB&A recording and touring. 21stCenturyGreenstuff (talk) 21:58, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

He was inducted already

Someone should update this page, He was inducted to the Rock Hall already and it still says he was nominated —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nothingbutgrains (talkcontribs) 16:54, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Jennifer Batten

Jennifer Batten worked with and toured with Jeff approximately 10 years ago - could someone more knowledgable than me add more information related to her contribution... —Preceding unsigned comment added by LeeThibodeau (talkcontribs) 03:17, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

This information has been added. I put it at the end of the 1990s section after the first mention of Who Else! since that was around the time they started working together. There is actually more history to it than that, but the section is so sparsely written that I wanted to add something that seemed in-line with the tone of the rest of the section and kept the focus on Beck. So, it's only a couple of sentences. Also, Batten's work with Beck extends into 2001, but it's mentioned in the text at the end of the 1990s section because it seemed more readable to put it in there. - Retroversion (talk) 18:42, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Retroversion

Is Jeff Beck a fingerstyle guitarist?

Or does he use a pick-- or did he switch up over time? --leahtwosaints (talk) 01:13, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

His style is that he uses his thumb like a pick while at the same time using his index finger to control the guitar volume, the middle finger to pick and the other two on the tremolo arm. It's a very unique style. When playing acoustic he uses a Jazz style picking technique. However he will adjust to suit the song so he does use a pick sometimes especially when working with other people. Theladfromtheeast (talk) 17:08, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Ah, that explains a lot! It's only in some of the most recent DVD material, as with the Ronnie Scott's performances that I began wondering about whether it was a progressive trend towards or away from using a plectrum, or whether it was the genre of music, and it's demands.--Leahtwosaints (talk) 06:08, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Jeff rarely plays the guitar when he's not touring or recording

I think this part of the sentence should be deleted since it is totally unsourced. I'd rather think the opposite is be true. Eric Clapton e.g. was saying in an interview that J.B. is probably the most dedicated guitar player he knows and that he is "either fixing his cars or he's playing the guitar".Microfinance2010 (talk) 18:09, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Marriage

Is there any source or confirmation that he is married? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.207.106.2 (talk) 15:03, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Equipment and effects

There should be a substantial amount of information about Beck's guitars, amps, etc. I don't see it. Rating the Guitarist's Group here at "C level" I'll leave alone, but I still consider it a gift! If you do not have the time to edit any of his articles, (as is true of myself) please suggest this one to others; preferably those who are familiar with guitars and guitarists, but any help is good help. I can provide photos of him with a variety of guitars once the text is there. Thank you! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 12:45, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Problem with an album name

The album, Performing This Week... Live at Ronnie Scott's was initially added to his studio albums, but titled as Live at Ronnie Scott's. Which do we work with? A review of the album here: [2] shows both in the title and the reference (not to mention a banner for his work here on his page) to the album as showing the Performing This Week... etc. as the correct title. What to do? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:41, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
