Related discussion re vote change for 1945 by-election. edit

I recently started a discussion at Talk:1947 Jarrow by-election which I thought I should also note here as it is also relevant to this article. There is a discrepancy between this and the 1947 Jarrow by-election article in that the change in the Conservative vote share there for that election is down as "new", but there it is +3.5%. As I have said on that talk page the difference is to do with whether the 1947 Conservative total should be considered to be a continuation of the 1945 general election total polled by the National Liberal Party's candidate or not. By 1945 the National Liberals and Conservatives were fully allied and never ran candidates against each other and indeed in May 1947 they formally merged. I think this means that the totals can be compared for vote share change (as done here), but most of all the two articles should probably adopt the same approach for consistency, otherwise it could cause confusion. What do others think is the best way forward? Dunarc (talk) 22:44, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
