The John Strachan referred to, is surely the singer (born 1875) who was recorded by Alan Lomax, http://www.mustrad.org.uk/reviews/strachan.htm rather than the Canadian shown in the link.

i agree. Also, the quote in question is perfectly true. Reuben Taylor is a renowned Scottish musician, and he does smoke a pipe.
