Presumptive Representative-elect?

"He is the Democratic nominee and presumptive Representative-Elect in the 2020 election to represent New York's 16th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives."

This formulation might be appropriate were he the only candidate on the ballot in November, but he's not. Regardless of polling data, I'd think that NPOV would call for someone only being referred to in a way that includes "elect" after an election. --108.28.49.246 (talk) 14:36, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

The district is so heavily Democratic that winning the primary is "tantamount to election". That said, it has been removed. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:48, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Muboshgu, I went ahead and removed "representative-elect." Any decision to include this type of information would likely lead to a slippery slope for pages in the future. It doesn't take a political genius to predict elections in consistent districts, but Wikipedia should not be in the business of election prediction or polling. We'll save that for FiveThirtyEight and The Cook Political Report. KidAd (💬💬) 15:53, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
KidAd, I agree with the removal. I would have done it when I saw this IP's comment except you had done it already. I assume though there are sources that point out the heavily D lean of the district such that it wasn't POV, though. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:58, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough. I did not agree with the IP's assessment that the statement violated NPOV. I viewed it as a combination of WP:SYNTH + WP:CRYSTALBALL + intuition and common sense. KidAd (💬💬) 16:13, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Agreed, we cannot call him presumptive. We can say that the district leans heavily Democratic, if we attribute that to a strong WP:RS and balance it appropriately. We don't call elections, but we should give readers a fair understanding of his prospects.--Darryl Kerrigan (talk)

Cut off by CNN

Is this the fellow who CNN cut off, for criticism of Rahm Emanuel? GoodDay (talk) 01:01, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
