Jackson Galaxy's former name edit

Interesting ... the article says Jackson Galaxy had a former name and highlights the name. The reference for that name however does not give the name at all. It says: "he changed it in his 20s and there's no getting the first iteration out of him." So what business do we have of putting this other name out there?

My first instinct was to take away the bold print, to be respectful of this living person, as we have an obligation to do with Wikipedia articles about living persons. But when I unbolded it, someone immediately changed it back.

Now I'm wondering what business we have to put in this name without any evidence that it really was his name. It should go completely. Well, I went in and took it out, as I read the warning that "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately" - it certainly fits that meaning, not being sourced at all and obviously something that this living person does not care to disclose. Again ... respect!

My edit was reverted, by user Fylbecatulous. The reason given was that the Miami Herald is a reliable source. Now there is an article by the Miami Herald (did I miss this earlier?) that does mention the earlier name.

Still, I don't think it's good form to highlight a person's former legal name that they are no longer using. It seems disrespectful to me.

Standard Wikipedia and encyclopedic form. Nothing disrespectful or contentious about it. Softlavender (talk) 00:46, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Put yourself in the shoes of the person being written about. If you changed your name for personal reasons, could be any reason, maybe a previous relationship that ended, would you want to see the old name in bold print for the world to see? What is the purpose of sharing the information? Is this anything to do with this person's notability? Canadianknowledgelover (talk) 01:40, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Standard Wikipedia and encyclopedic form. Nothing disrespectful or contentious about it. If you feel this is a WP:BLP violation, take it up with Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard. Otherwise, please avoid asking the same question, or making the same point/argument, over and over, as it wastes everyone's time. Thanks very much! The source, Miami Herald, doesn't say that Jackson doesn't like his original name where did you see that? It may be the case but it'd be original research to assume he doesn't want it known, and in any case then his beef would be with the Miami Herald not wikipedia.
