Urban okrug edit

The official website of the Iultinsky district now states "Urban okrug of Egvekinot". Perhaps the article should be moved? --ShockD (talk) 22:57, 19 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

The article needs to be updated (I have this on my to-do list and will hopefully start working on this and other affected articles soon), but not moved. Unlike in the Russian Wikipedia, our articles are primarily about the administrative entities (the administrative district, in this case); the change, however, pertains only to the municipal entity (the municipal district, which was transformed into an urban okrug). As far as I understood from their site, the administrative and municipal districts are the same thing now. The territory and the administrative division of the new urban okrug is identical to the former district. --ShockD (talk) 17:47, 21 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
The territories might be identical, but the concepts are not. The administrative divisions (which include the administrative districts) and the municipal divisions (which include the municipal districts) are regulated by different laws. This is not uncommon elsewhere in Russia; in fact, only a handful of federal subjects explicitly declare that their administrative divisions mirror the municipal ones. Our articles are built around the administrative framework, with the municipal information upmerged. In the Russian Wikipedia, it's the other way around. Either way has its benefits and drawbacks, but the approach must be consistent throughout, which is why it would make no sense to move this article to "Egvekinot Urban Okrug", nor the article in the Russian Wikipedia to "Иультинский район".—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); June 23, 2016; 15:08 (UTC)
