There is a third meaning edit

To be institutionalized can also mean that someone is used to life in an institution and carries mannerisms and customs from their institution to the real world when released. This mainly applies to prisoners. It may also mean the person is so comfortable with institutional life they prefer it to freedom. This causes many longtime inmates to return to prison soon after release. This is an interesting psychological phenomenon but I don't believe it's been adequately studied. If someone who has more Wikipedia experience wants to add this to the disambig page and start a page on it, it would be a service to the Wiki. I'm just an ex-con suffering from this form of institutionalization, so I came here for information on it. -24.144.15.56 (talk) 10:48, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is fourth meaning edit

As stated in the article on [Institution], institutionalisation refers to the process of embedding something (for example a concept, a social role, a particular value or mode of behavior) within an organization, social system, or society as a whole. Mimosinnet (talk) 10:00, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
