Talk:Infinite element method

Latest comment: 5 years ago by 139.30.0.73

Dear all, please correct me if I am wrong; but I think the article mixes up two different things:

  1. The infinite element method as discussed by Ying, Lung-an (ref. 1); this is, according to my understanding, consistent with the given explanation.
  2. The infinite element method as discussed by Gerdes (and maybe by Autrique, Magoulès (I haven't read their work though)) is another method which has nothing in common with the first one.

Instead, the infinite elements as discussed by Gerdes amend a finite-element region and have an infinite extend in one (or two) directions. With the latter method one can describe problems in unbound domains (e.g. ext. acoustics) given that the asymptotic behaviour is known. --139.30.0.73 (talk) 08:55, 9 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
