Importance to Spaceflight edit

Subsequent to the merger of WikiProject Space exploration and Wikipedia:WikiProject Spaceflight I have re-assessed this article's importance. Whereas it may have been of "Low" importance to "space exploration", it is of "Mid" importance to "spaceflight". Is that rational? (sdsds - talk) 16:30, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with File:Manned-Mission-Chart.jpg edit

The image File:Manned-Mission-Chart.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

Indian astronauts will not fly aboard Soyuz edit

Contradiction : The article says that an Indian will be flying on a Russian craft. It also says, in another section, that an Indian will not be flying on a Russian craft. 82.163.24.100 (talk) 11:42, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

3 tons? edit

does 3 tons refer to the entire spacecraft or just the reentry module? comparable spacecraft Soyuz is 6.8 tons, and Shenzhou is 7.7 tons while their reentry module are both around 3 tons. Akinkhoo (talk) 15:14, 13 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Image Used edit

ISRO states that GSLV mk3 will carry ISRO orbital vehicle. But the image used in this article show something like a proton-M. Shouldn't this be removed as it is old and also confusing.Mao Martin (talk) 16:34, 20 June 2015 (UTC)MaoReply

Vyomanaut capitalization edit

Seeing as astronaut, cosmonaut, and others are not capitalized, is there a reason why are we capitalizing vyomanaut? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Кирова (talkcontribs) 23:04, 27 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Official name for project appears to be 'Vyom' edit

The project under which first Indian human spaceflight would be under taken is referred as 'Vyom'

"ISRO sought manned mission for a decade... Vyom will be a national effort, not just an ISRO project. It will boost national pride,"[1]

Also on 15 August 2018 ISRO Chairman in his speech (@2min8sec, @8min5sec, @8min30s mark) refers to it as 'Vyom'

So, the programme is Human Spaceflight, the capsule is Gaganyan, and its mission is Vyom? Or the Human Spaceflight Programme was renamed Vyom? Thanks, Rowan Forest (talk) 02:58, 18 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
The name of programme is 'Vyom', 'Gaganyaan' seems to be name of orbital vehicle, just crew module or whole crew+service module stack, it is not clear. 'Indian Human Spaceflight Programme' is not an official term. Ohsin 03:28, 18 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
The name "Human Spaceflight Programme" look pretty official in these documents: [1], [2], [3]. I don't speak Hindi, but I suspect the reporter casually used the word Vyom as a synonym for "space mission". Cheers, Rowan Forest (talk) 03:40, 18 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I would only consider the NIAS paper as document. IHSF could encompass more than what 2022 campaign goals are or it could be simply renamed. Gaganyaan could also be renaming of 'Manav' orbital vehicle mentioned in book From Fishing Hamlet to Red Planet under chapter "Initiatives on Indian Human Space Flight" by S.UNNIKRISHNAN NAIR[2] 'Vyom' is definitely not being used casually either by reporter or by ISRO chief, in fact in common parlance it is not used at all. Lets keep it as it is and may be cite 'Vyom' for 2022 campaign after some more details emerge. Ohsin 04:43, 18 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
This article equates Vyom with IHSF but not in-depth.
"India’s human spaceflight programme, Vyom, was proposed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) a decade ago." Ohsin 06:56, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

New details from press conference on 28 August2018 edit

Slides show expected flight profile. Splashdown of crew module would be in Arabian sea.

Microgravity experiments on test flights edit

ISRO is inviting proposals from Indian academic institutions for microgravity experiments to be conducted on robotic test flights of orbital vehicle about 24 and 30 months from now.

IDRSS or Indian Data Relay Satellite System is soon to be put up edit

Like TDRSS, to support Human Space Flight two IDRSS communication satellites are planned with first one going up in 2019. They should have an optical communication payload as well, like one flown on GSAT-29 recently.

For IHSF launches existing launch pad and facilities will be used. edit

Removing bit on new launch pad from article. Third launch Pad is not being build and is not a requirement to carry out crewed/crewless flights under IHSF campaign.[1][2]

  2. ^ "Question number 1733 in Rajya Sabha" (PDF). Retrieved 11 January 2019. It is proposed to utilise the existing launch pad with augmentation for carrying out the initial flights under the Gaganyaan manned space flight programme.

Astronaut edit

Hey all just a few questions, about the astronaught sections, as there names will be revealed soon'

>should we keep The Astronaut names at the forefront of astronaught section? >Should we give them a seperate article like 2024 Indian Astronaught Crops ? >should we also creat bio's for them

Pls 🙏 do let your opinions be known... RAZOR-X (talk) 06:11, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have started the Draft:Gaganyaan-4 (considering that since ISRO have announced the crew names, more on this mission should be revealed). Someone else also started Draft:Gaganyaan-2. Erick Soares3 (talk) 12:48, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
