Untitled edit

I remember my family bought a microwave from this joint way back in like 1995 or something. The one in Columbus, OH had a McDonald's in it!

I'm changing the bit about it being unclear whether or not Fry's bought the stores from Tandy or just bought empty buildings. It was definitely the former; I was actually an IU employee in Phoenix when Fry's came in and bought the place. The store never shut down, one day we were Tandy employees, the next day we were Fry's employees. Phanatic 19:50, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

And on top of that, the trucks have never changed. You can still see the silhouette where they hastily painted over the IU text, and the only Fry's 'logos' are some generic vinyl stick-on lettering on the doors. Those things have to be seriously racking up the miles by now... Ayocee 23:44, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why the NPOV tag? It's flagged but no reason why in the talk page. Jetblackstrat (talk) 23:54, 8 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Since only 17 IU stores existed, I'm deleting the two "unconfirmed" ones. Even so, the list still has 20 cities, which is three too many. Lifung (talk) 07:53, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Creepiness Factor edit

FTA: "One of the major problems was advertising and getting the word out. Many people, when asked about the store (in the general area where a store was located), had no idea of what the store was or the concept. It appears that since many of the stores were not in the general geographic location of another, a sweeping promotion via TV or newspaper would prove to be too costly. This was mostly the biggest problem with the Westbury, NY, store which did no advertising until the Elizabeth, NJ, store opened."

If I remember correctly, it was more the creepiness factor -- people did not want to shop at these places -- the Disney-like corporate plan just made the stores very uncomfortable - plus there was some type of weird membership deal. It is NO coincidence that the empty buildings were the perfect size to be turned into military facilities - such as the one in Dale City Virginia. It is now a small factory were amphibious tanks and heavy duty combat vehicles are being constructed. The parking lot is off limits to civilian traffic which is very heavy in the area considering that Potomac Mills mall, Walmart, and T.G.I. Fridays are on all three sides. Its is a very strange location for a military facility of that nature to be so close to a nearby heavily populated civilian shopping mall which is only a few feet away. Explain this...

  • But is there a source supporting this?
  • If not, we can't post it.

Charlotte edit

The Charlotte store became a Sam's Club. Also, it had a McDonalds when it was open —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.213.144.254 (talk) 15:58, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

List of former locations? edit

There used to be a list of former locations and their current status. I have no idea why this was deleted, as it's factual information relevant to the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.151.215.247 (talk) 05:44, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
