Performance Problems with iOS 4 edit

Another is that the 3G has insufficient RAM memory to cope with the demands of the new iOS 4 operating system: only 128 MB, versus the 512 MB of RAM in the iPhone 4 for which iOS 4 was designed.

The reference this entry cites does not back up this theory, in fact the page states that a jailbroken 3G has performed well with multi-tasking enabled. I have a 2nd-generation iPod Touch which has 128 MB of RAM and runs iOS 4. When I got my 3G and upgraded to iOS 4, it was noticeably sluggish and unresponsive while the iPod Touch works flawlessly. Resetting the Spotlight Search brought the 3G in line with the Touch. Danny Darko (talk) 15:05, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

The iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2nd generation do use the same exact processor (which is also in the original iPhone and iPod touch) but the iPod touch 2nd generation is clocked 115MHz higher than it's iPhone 3G counterpart. A 200MHz overclock has shown tremendous difference in performance under iOS (ex. iPhone 3GS although it does use a different architecture still the clock speeds affect speeds).

"20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response (internal, headset)" edit

20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response is possible with a decent pair of headphones / earphones, but to claim that the internal speaker is capable of that is quite incorrect.

Using the FreqGen app on my iPhone 3G, i measured the frequency response of the internal speaker as 200 Hz to 17 kHz. This is respectable for a piezoelectric speaker smaller than a UK 5p coin powered by about 250mW (0.25w). --109.156.237.144 (talk) 13:39, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

The non-press-release archives work; the press release archive is unnecessary as Apple just moved them - I updated the press release URLs. Guy Harris (talk) 09:05, 10 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hatnote edit

The reason I put the hatnote describing the iPhone 3G as the second gen phone with iPhone 3GS as the third gen phone is because the first phone's article is named "iPhone (1st generation)", which does not follow the same rules as things like iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S to iPhone 5 to iPhone 5S to iPhone 6 to iPhone 6S, etc. The ambiguity of the second generation being jumped from 1 to 3 is the reason why I need to state this hatnote into that article. Merge with iPhone 3GS? edit

The iPhone 3G and 3GS look identical, have similar names and a major selling point of both was the fact that they sold with 3G. So why not merge them into a single article that covers both the phones?

Because they're separate generations of iPhone? Guy Harris (talk) 11:37, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
