Trackbed removed? edit

I'm a bit confused by this: Following the branch's closure, the trackbed was removed - I know that the track itself was removed but surely removing the trackbed would be quite a work of excavation - would it be worthwhile and is it likely? Does anyone know? I am sure that they took up the track (presumably because it was reusable or had scrap value) but I feel less sure about them having taken anything else away. How could one tell, or be sure?? 138.37.199.206 (talk) 07:18, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Indeed (sorry to bang on about this, I should probably seek attention for my OCD) the Sub Brit page in the ext links [1] has a photo whose caption mentions in passing, "The trackbed is fenced across behind the photographer". Does this constitute evidence? Sigh. I dunno. :) 138.37.199.206 (talk) 07:23, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
In the absence of any discussion of this utterly fascinating and urgent topic, I plan to change "trackbed" to "track". That the track is gone may be seen easily and is confirmed by the Subbrit page referenced, so at least, as a minimum, we know that's true. To assert that the trackbed is gone is much harder and requires proof or at least expert testimony. In the interests of accuracy it seems safer to go for track unless and until trackbed is confirmed. But what do YOU think?? DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered (talk) 23:36, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well please don't all shout at once ... :) DBaK (talk) 10:55, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
This is a recent photograph of the former station, viewed from Hutton Lane, across from where the track used to run. The ground has been filled in to the level of the old platforms. At least one house has been built on where the line used to be (mid-late 1960s, beyond the right of the photo). (I commuted to school from the station 1960-62, and will be driving past it in three weeks time.) Narky Blert (talk) 20:47, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Narky Blert for this, and sorry for the appropriately slow reply (I'd unwatched this for a while, not sure why). Nice pic! We used to go shopping in Middlesbrough sometimes from there and I think my Dad commuted in too. I think I might visit your talk page some time ... cheers DBaK (talk) 21:19, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
