Abbreviations edit

The use of MS, MSS and UP here isn't at all clear. I guest the last one is "University Press", but I've no idea what the other two are. These should, I think, be expanded (and linked, if necessary). -- Finlay McWalter | Talk July 7, 2005 17:04 (UTC)

Really? I thought MS (manuscript) and MSS (manuscripts) was fairly standard and explained in the keys to most dictionaries, etc. (It's as common in literature and philology as "v" and "mhz" are in electronics settings.) Well, it's a short article, so it's no big deal to expand the abbreviations, I suppose. Geogre 8 July 2005 14:01 (UTC)
Thanks. No, I'd never heard of them. One would hope that the first occurance of "V" or "MHz" in an article would be wikilinked; I don't know if there's a wikipedia page to which to link MS/MSS. I wouldn't at all mind a wikilink to wiktionary (I agree fully that it's not reasonable to expand every acronym in all cases) - it has wiktionary:MS but not wiktionary:MSS. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk July 8, 2005 16:45 (UTC)
