Old, unsectioned comments edit

This page has been moved back and forth between Xu Huaiwen and Huaiwen Xu. Quote from Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese)#Names: " Another special case is for a figure whose Chinese name is familar but used English ordering (for example, Wen Ho Lee). In this case, the primary entry should be under the English ordering with a redirect from the Chinese ordering. ". Other similar examples include Chen-Ning Yang, Ang Lee and Tsung-Dao Lee. — Instantnood 20:00, September 12, 2005 (UTC) (modified 16:16, 15 September 2005 (UTC))Reply

So far user:Huaiwei has not produced any valid justification why the title of this article should be Xu Huaiwen not Huaiwen Xu (see edit history [1] [2]), that this article is different from the other examples mentioned above. Even worse, it was a cut and paste move. — Instantnood 16:16, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Quite on the contrary, there has been plenty of discussion on this matter. Your habit of bringing content discussions to individual user talkpages, and in utilising only edit summaries instead of talkpages helped bury these discussions within the deep realms of wikispace, thus legitimising your attempt to slander the name of those whom you disagree with. I do not think this persistently dishonest behavior should go unnoticed.--Huaiwei 11:04, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Did I ever say that there's not plenty of discussion on this matter? Quote me if I had ever say such thing on this matter. Don't put your words in my mouth. That's not what civilised wikipedians should have done.

Meanwhile, please stop moving the entry by cut-and-paste. Nominate it at WP:RM if you are genuinely serious to editing on Wikipedia. Stop creating any more trouble, please. If the proposal to move it from Huaiwen Xu to Xu Huaiwen is passed administrators will delete the redirect at Xu Huaiwen and move this entry there. — Instantnood 07:22, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

History merge edit

I merged the cut and paste move's history into this article. However, be warned that if there are future revert wars going on for the content dispute/naming I'll definitely protect both names. --WinHunter (talk) 06:40, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so much for taking action against it. Nevertheless I don't think it'd be a good way to merge an entry with its cut-and-paste fork. The edit history is now like a mess.. Nobody can now tell which edit was made under which title, and who made which edit under which title. Is there any better alternative way that we can preserved edit history in a neat and tidy manner? — Instantnood 07:22, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The result of the debate was Move: Naming conventions and most common usage. —Centrxtalk • 04:37, 6 October 2006 (UTC) Huaiwei XuXu Huaiwen – {reason for move with signature} copied from the entry on the WP:RM page:Reply

  • Huaiwen XuXu HuaiwenRationale: According to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese), Chinese names should be presented with their last names first unless there is a special case of the name in English ordering being more notable. There is no evidence that the later is true, with "Xu Huaiwen" appearing as often as "Huaiwen Xu" even in German texts. There is no evidence that the said person has officially changed her name when migrating to Germany, and wikipedia should not be changing her name for her, obviously without her consent. … Please share your opinion at Talk:Huaiwen Xu.--Huaiwei 07:28, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Request relisted on 27 September; please let it go for several more days, as only one opinion was registered in the last 8 days. -- nae'blis 05:45, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. See above [3]. — Instantnood 20:10, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Comment The naming convention treats these as "special cases", which are all justified based on popular usage. On what bases should this name be a "special case" too?--Huaiwei 03:21, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. The naming convention is "Foo Foobar"; the reverse ordering is the exception, and should bear the burden of proof. Using Google Almighty (FWIW), I get:
873 English pages for "Xu Huaiwen" -wikipedia.[4]
128 English pages for "Huaiwen Xu" -wikipedia.[5]
An almost 7:1 ratio on English-language webpages. --SigPig 20:15, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. Both the naming conventions and the Google stats above seem to argue in favor of this move. —SkipperPilot 18:24, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per Instantnood. Naming conventions provides for Chinese people of non-China citizenship. - Privacy 20:32, 30 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Comment The naming convention does not dictate that ethnic Chinese who are not Chinese nationals must have their names writtern this way. Common usage clearly rules in this case. Anyhow, citizenship is not a contributing factor at all as per the naming convention.--Huaiwei 03:17, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Article title edit

I'm watching her play in the Olympics now, and, unlike the Chinese player she's playing, her name is presented with surname last, rather than first. Badagnani (talk) 05:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ethnic group edit

Is she ethnically Han (Chinese), or is she partly or fully from another of the Ethnic minorities in China? Badagnani (talk) 05:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
