Name

The article was moved recently from Howden Minster to Church of SS Peter & Paul, Howden but the text of the article was not updated to reflect this and the only reference to the new name appears to be in the infobox under dedication. Should the rest of the article be updated to reflect this or should the page be restored to its previous name as it is what it is known by. Keith D (talk) 10:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

IMO it was moved to an incorrect location and should be moved back. I agree with you that Howden Minster is by far the most common name. The same as York Minster is. How can Vox Humana 8' move be changed? It was actually moved July 2007 not recently. - Yorkshirian (talk) 16:16, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Proposed section detailing the Minster's architecture

Check out User:Brandt Nightingale/subpage 1 for a proposed section I have just finished drafting detailing Howden Minster's architecture. I have drawn on an article by Nicola Coldstream that explored in detail the architectural forms and decorative details of the building campaigns of 1265-c. 1335 that saw the entire structure rebuilt. Dr Coldstream shows the influences both local and further afield that inspired Howden's architecture, and the influence that Howden had on regional buildings that came after. In writing the new section I also made use to a lesser extent of Pevsner's entry on Howden Minster. I'd like to hear your comments here. Brandt Nightingale (talk) 04:56, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Regarding public access to the minster

The last sentence of the section on the Minster's history states regarding the ruined choir that '[t]he ruins can only be seen from the outside, as they are still part of the current minster church.' To me, this seems to imply that no access at all is allowed to the interior of the Minster, but no source for this assertion is cited, and I understand that the portions still in use as a parish church are freely open to anyone during normal hours (as is the case with most parish churches). Putting that aside, is access to the ruined portion really not allowed as per this statement?

A statement regarding access to both the minster and the ruins of its former choir (sourced from reliable sources clearly cited) would, I think, be a helpful component of this article. If anyone has access to such a source and can revise or replace the existing statement, please do so. Brandt Nightingale (talk) 15:08, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Correspondence with the churchwarden at Howden has made clear to me the situation regarding access. I have found corroborating statements on the English Heritage website and in Howden Minster's space on A Church Near You (a website run by the Church of England), and edited the article accordingly.
