Second Hotel Vancouver edit

I expanded that bit; and I'll try to dig up a picture or two of the old hotel; and also of the first hotel, which was on the same site but considerably smaller.Skookum1 21:14, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Christ Church Cathedral edit

I heard from a friend of mine who was studying tourism in Vancouver that there is an underground tunnel from the hotel to Christ Church Cathedral across the street specifically so that the Royal Family can attend service when visiting Vancouver without having to go outside. Is that true? Mithridates 12:54, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's not why the tunnel exists, though no doubt it's been handy for that purpose; there is a network of tunnels underneath downtown Vancouver all the way from Carrall & Hastings to about Bute & Georgia, spanning from the harbour as far south as Davie Street; many are steam-delivery tunnels or carry steam conduits; you need a set of keys to navigate the whole network. The Royal Family have stayed at the Georgia also; more often in fact; and no doubt there's a tunnel there, too; which would have had to be maintained in the design of what is now the HSBC building (was Bank of BC, turned Bank of HK, then HSBC) and the "new" Georgia Medical-Dental Building in between. The old courthouse (VAG) also links to other buildings, even before Arthur Erickson sank the new courthouse into the ground on its south side.Skookum1 15:19, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Iii057 19940014 chrest va s.jpg edit

Image:Iii057 19940014 chrest va s.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:59, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually I don't see why either Tipton picture is even here at all; who cares if the Hotel Van's been used as a set for that one particular movie, and ti's only used as an exterior, the actuyal show is shot in Boston, where the first Tipton picture is located - and doesn't belong on this page at all. There have been hundreds of films the Hotel Van has been used in; do we have to have a picture of each one? Delete delete delete....Skookum1 (talk) 20:58, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hotel Van edit

Re this removal:

It is often referred to by locals simply as "the Hotel Van"

Well, I added that and I've been around considerably longer than 25 years (I'm 54). I'll write Chuck Davis and see if he might have a cite for it; at one time it was a common casual name for this hotel (and its predecessors).Skookum1 (talk) 17:16, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hotel Vancouver lions? edit

My father lived in the Hotel Vancouver for a year after the death of his father, an early founding member of Bloedel Donovan, in 1918. He remembered playing on lions at the entrance. Are they still in existence? And is this the hotel? Thank you. Ellen McClure ellen@nutfarm.com 503 538 4606
